The future of visual rope inspection

The Winspect® 2.0 inspection system sets new standards in visual rope inspection and emphasises Winspect GmbH’s claim to be an innovation leader in the industry. The rope inspection system enables high-precision, automated inspection at a speed of up to 2.7 m/s. Four colour cameras arranged in a ring capture the entire rope surface and deliver exact results in real time. The 360-degree colour images enable exact fault detection and precise analysis of lay lengths and diameters across the entire rope.

The new, optimised inspection system for inspecting hauling, suspension and hoisting ropes will be presented for the first time at Interalpin 2025 from 6 to 9 May 2025 in Innsbruck.

Detailed documentation

The condition of the rope is digitally documented and is available in a detailed report. All damage such as wire distortions, scratches, strand contact, corrosion damage or wire breaks can be recognised automatically. The lay lengths and rope diameters are also measured and recorded. This facilitates traceability, as changes to the rope surface can be documented over the entire service life.

Visual inspection of mine ropes

With the Minespect® system, we deliver a new technology that can
comprehensively solve the challenges of rope inspection in underground
mining. The device is designed and optimized for operation on Koepe shaft hoisting systems for inspect multiple parallel hoisting ropes. Nevertheless, the inspection system can also be used on drum hoists.

With our rope inspection system Minespect®, visual inspection of the complete rope circumference is performed accurately, safely and quickly. The rope surface is recorded at a speed of up to 20 m/s and can be carried out during conveying operation. This circumstance results in considerable cost savings.

Evaluation of rope condition

The image data recorded by the cameras is then automatically processed, the diameter and lay length are determined over the entire rope length and defects such as wire breaks protruding from the rope are detected. Afterwards, the operator can examine and evaluate the result.

Documentation

Inspect cable-stayed bridges

Ropes are the load-bearing elements of cable-stayed bridges and give them their stability over decades. Environmental influences such as weathering and loads caused by increasing heavy traffic place enormous stress on the structures. The cables, which are protected against corrosion by a multi-layer coating (sheathing), must be inspected at regular intervals both visually and by magnetic induction in order to detect and repair any damage at an early stage.

Your advantages

With the Bridgespect® visual rope inspection device, the ropes can be simultaneously inspected semi-automatically visually as well as magnetically inductively. For visual inspection, we have developed a Bridgespect® rope inspection device in modular design, which can cover rope diameters from 95mm upwards. By means of at least four color cameras arranged at right angles to each other, the complete rope surface is recorded, seamlessly documented and automatically evaluated by software for surface damage. As with our rope inspection devices for ropeways and conveyor systems in mines, the inspection personnel have the option of having a detailed inspection report issued after the analysis has been completed.
