Welcome Note from Conference Chairman

It has been a long time since we were last together at the Hoist and haul 2015 conference in Stockholm, Sweden.  The COVID19 virus pandemic and the ensuing restrictions on travel and gatherings caused the postponement of the Hoist and Haul 2020 until August 2023.

I would like to invite everyone to join with me and the Hoist and Haul 2023 organizing committee in Montreal to renew acquaintances, meet new people and learn all about the newest developments and best practices in the international mining industry relating to transporting people and material in mines with safety and efficiency.

The conference will have over 30 peer reviewed papers presented over 3 days together with keynote speakers, 15 exhibitors and an excellent social program.

Past H&H conferences have been well attended by experts from academia, industry professionals, mine operators, equipment manufacturers and government regulators.

The weather in Montreal, Quebec, is lovely in August and there are many historic sites and scenic places to explore during your visit to Montreal.  Montreal is very accessible via the international airport, major highways and railway.

The Hoist and Haul 2023 international conference is being organized and hosted by the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum. CIM has extensive experience in hosting conferences over the past 125 years since it was established in 1898.

The time has come again. After successfully passing the factory acceptance test, two of our Minespect® systems leave our production facility and start their journey to our customer in Canada. There, they will inspect the head ropes of two Koepe hoists at maximum hoisting speed of 18.29 m/s.

We are already looking forward to commissioning both systems after their arrival on-site.

March 2021 – Minespect®:  We are very happy to announce, that all four of our Minespect® – Wire Rope Inspection Systems successfully passed the Factory Acceptance Test.

Now it is time to get the inspection systems packed for delivery to shaft #2 at Oyu Tolgoi.

Update April 2021 – Our inspection systems for OT have been packed and prepared for their long journey to Mongolia.

Now it’s time for the pickup.

19/10/2021 – Our next Bridgespect® rope inspection system for combined visual and magneto-inductive inspection of cable-stayed bridges will be used on a new cable-stayed bridge in the United Arab Emirates.

05/05/2021 – Winspect 2.0:  In beautiful sunshine we were allowed to record some ropes with our partner Seilplan in the still wintry Davos/Parsenn to do testing our new hard- and software. The first rope inspection were successful.

6/10/2020 – Visual rope inspection Winspect®: The Rabenwald talc plant operated by IMERYS Talc Austria put its first Winspect rope inspection system into operation in October 2020.

The Winspect rope inspection system is used to inspect the hauling and suspension ropes of the material ropeway, which transports the mined talc from the mountain to the valley for further processing.

Functionality

The special feature of this system is the joint integration of the testing equipment for visual and magnetic inductive rope inspection in a specially prepared trolley. This integration, which is unique up to now, allows both inspection methods to be carried out simultaneously and both inspection systems to be connected to a single signal transmitter for the distance traveled. This allows the data from magnetic induction testing to be superimposed on the data from visual inspection. This provides an even more accurate picture of the condition of the rope and benefits from the strengths of both inspection systems.
